Carbon steel intermediate bulk containers are metal containers that are reusable for the bulk storage and transport of liquids. Intermediate bulk containers are also referred to as IBCs, IBC totes, or IBC tanks. Carbon steel IBC totes are made of exterior painted carbon steel and available in 110 gallon to 550 gallon capacities. Principal tank applications are for oils, lubricants, and some solvents. Carbon steel IBCs are used in the food, chemical, petroleum, and pharmaceutical industries. Protank’s carbon steel IBC Totes meet or exceed Title CFR49 requirements, hold UN31A and UL142 design approvals, and are NFPA 30 section 9.4.1 (1) approved for flammable and combustible liquids. These tanks have a specific gravity rating of 1.9, making them effective in storing and transporting various chemicals.
Carbon steel IBC totes offer great service life with minimal maintenance. The tanks are constructed with one-piece sloped bottoms (hopper bottoms) allowing for complete drainage, 22-1/2” diameter top-fill openings with removable drum covers, and 1/4” thick combination lifting lugs applicable for offshore and domestic use. IBCs are maneuverable with pallet jacks or forklifts and can be stacked up to four high subject to tank size and external conditions. Carbon steel IBC tanks come with pressure-release venting devices, one-piece stamped valve guards, EPDM gaskets with plated clamp rings, 2” top bung openings, 2” stainless steel ball valves, and tank mounted operating instructions and warning labels.
Protank’s carbon steel IBCs are customizable to meet specific applications. Options are available for drum covers, manways, gaskets, valves, fittings, and heating or cooling jackets.
