Custom Containment Tanks

Businesses that store or handle chemicals, fuels, wastes, and hazardous materials often have a regulatory obligation to contain releases before they can reach the environment and a practical obligation to protect personnel and company operations. A single, uncontrolled spill can mean permit consequences, remediation costs, work disruptions, and liability exposure that far exceed the cost of proper containment. Off-the-shelf containment products don’t always match the need, whether the footprint is wrong, chemical compatibility is uncertain, or the volume doesn't match the application.

What We Build

Off-the-shelf containment products don't always match the need as the footprint can be wrong, chemical compatibility less than ideal, or the volume doesn't match the application. Protank builds to your exact requirements.

1

Secondary Containment Berms & Basins

Custom polypropylene containment berms and basins built to house tanks, drums, IBCs, and process equipment. They provide durable secondary containment that mitigates the risks from spills and leaks of hazardous materials. Tanks can be made to meet applicable secondary containment requirements under EPA RCRA hazardous waste regulations (40 CFR Parts 264/265), SPCC requirements for oil and petroleum storage (40 CFR Part 112), and facility-specific environmental permit conditions.

2

Chemical Storage Tanks

Made from polypropylene, these tanks are suitable for containing many corrosive, reactive, high purity, sensitive, and hazardous substances. The wide chemical compatibility of polypropylene makes it dependable for safe, long term primary or secondary storage in facilities handling liquid materials. Our chemical knowledge and compatibility data can help confirm material-to-application match before fabrication begins.

3

Spill Capture & Drip Pan Systems

Custom built spill capture systems, including drip pans and containment trays, can be positioned under tanks, pumps, valves, connection joints, and plumbing equipment such as filters and strainers to collect accidental releases at the source until response can be initiated and completed. These systems are a practical choice for material loss prevention and maintaining workplace safety during routine operations or equipment failures. They are also cost effective over permanent solutions, such as concrete berms, due to their lower installation price, resource recovery potential, and regulatory fine avoidance.

Drum & IBC Containment Pallets

Custom sized containment pallets and low profile basins, sized and built to match drum or IBC storage needs. Available for facilities that require compliant containment of packaged chemicals without the size, design, or compatibility limitations of off-the-shelf plastic pallets.

Why Polypropylene?

Polypropylene is the material of choice for custom containment tanks. Advantages include:

Chemical Resistance

Resists Acids, Alkalis & Industrial Chemicals

Capable of maintaining integrity in aggressive work conditions. Compatible with a wide range of industrial acids, alkalis, and process chemicals across concentrations typical in industrial containment environments.

Temperature Rated

30°F to 210°F Operating Range

Safe operating range of 30°F to 210°F; recommended maximum continuous operating temperature of 180°F. Designed for real industrial operating conditions, not just ambient storage.

Lightweight & Strong

High Tensile Strength Without the Weight

High tensile strength and impact resistance without the weight of steel or FRP. Simpler installation and onsite handling without the need for heavy equipment.

Chemically Inert

Suitable for High Purity & Hygiene Sensitive Environments

Low moisture absorption suitable for high purity, food grade, and hygiene sensitive applications. The same chemical inertness that resists industrial chemicals also ensures it won't contaminate sensitive contents.

Design & Dimensions

Protank fabricates and customizes tanks from benchtop scale up to several thousands of gallons, and can match custom dimensions to fit your floor plan, doorway limits, or outdoor space. Whether the challenge is a non-standard footprint, a difficult access point, or a multi-zone containment layout, the design starts with your site requirements.

Structural Reinforcement

Large basins, tall containers, and tanks with high fill height can be customized with external structural reinforcement to handle hydrostatic load and resist wall deflection. Options include external girders and ribs, steel box sections, and I-beams encased in polypropylene. Reinforcement is set according to your engineering requirements.

Double Wall Option

For applications requiring superior leak protection or where SPCC regulations mandate secondary containment integrated with the primary tank, Protank can fabricate or customize double wall tanks. These products provide a built-in secondary containment layer without a separate berm or basin, saving space and simplifying installation.

Add-On Options

To match use case and job function, Protank offers a comprehensive range of additional components that can be configured to match an existing system or process layout.

  • Fittings, valves, and plumbing sized and positioned to your piping specifications.
  • Level sensors and alarms for leak detection and fill monitoring.
  • Pump mounts, drain ports, and cleanout access, right where the process needs them.
  • Baffles and dividers for multi-compartment or multi-fluid applications.
  • Insulation for temperature sensitive storage.
  • Leak detection sensors with immediate breach notification.
  • Audible and visual alarms paired with level monitoring systems.

Industries Served

Containment demands vary by process, material, and regulatory environment. Each sector below represents a distinct set of operational and compliance requirements that Protank builds to.

Chemical Processing

Chemical processors use custom PP containment tanks as secondary containment units for onsite storage, day tank berms, dosing systems, and transfer stations involving acids, caustics, and other chemicals. Secondary containment tanks are, in general, best practice, if not mandated by EPA SPCC or RCRA requirements. Polypropylene has a strong, natural chemical resilience that makes it a reliable long term choice even in aggressive production environments.
EPA SPCC · RCRA

Environmental Management

In environmental management applications and specialized businesses, polypropylene tanks are used in waste containment, spill response, and pollution control to aid industries in protecting natural resources and minimizing environmental impacts such as groundwater infiltration. Common uses include RCRA compliant hazardous waste containment and stormwater management berms.
RCRA · Clean Water Act

Oil & Gas

Companies handling oil and gas, its byproducts, and derivatives, use polypropylene containment tanks to secure onsite liquid cargo tanks, processing tanks, and injection systems as well as for secondary containment around pipelines, equipment, and storage areas to prevent soil or water contamination in compliance with SPCC regulations.
SPCC · 40 CFR Part 112

Manufacturing

Manufacturing operations use these tanks to safely contain and handle raw chemicals, coolants, and waste products. Such secondary containment measures reduce the risk of workflow interruption, regulatory exposure, and workplace incidents. Common applications include coolant sumps, parts washing station containment, and chemical day tank berms.
