Custom & Fabricated Tanks

Protank fabricates custom plastic tanks from sheet stock and outfits stock molded tanks for applications where an off-the-shelf tank doesn’t work. Builds start from your specifications: the liquid or material the tank will hold, the temperature the job requires, the footprint measurements, any unique design shape, and the fittings and connections needed for process piping and equipment. Customers can bring anything from a rough sketch to a full drawing package. The more details provided with the request, the faster we can provide an accurate quote.

Welded construction is available in polypropylene, PVC, CPVC, HDPE in natural and black, and PVDF Kynar. Polypropylene is available in homopolymer (PP-H) and copolymer (PP-C) options. Sheet thicknesses range from 3/16″ to 1″. Hand and bead welding is used for fittings, corners, and detail work. Extrusion welding handles thicker and structural joints. Tanks outside the weldable thermoplastic range can be sourced rather than fabricated.

Two ways to request a custom tank

When the size, shape, capacity, or chemical service falls outside what a stock tank can handle, the container is built from sheet. Configurations include open top, closed top, divided into compartments, rectangular, square, or a fully asymmetrical shape that fits an existing footprint. Cone and hopper bottoms, integral stands, and duct and vapor handling components and connections are all standard work.

When a stock rotationally molded tank already fits the service, the faster and less expensive option is to modify the base product. Protank cuts, welds, and outfits stock open top polypropylene tanks, cone bottom tanks, and HDPE tanks such as vertical poly, leg, and utility tanks. Customized stock tanks are worked to specification before shipment, and avoid the cost and lead time of a scratch build for jobs that do not need one.

Fittings, components, and add-ons

Both custom tank fabrication and custom stock tanks offer the same modification range. Connections include welded flanges, welded couplings, bulkhead fittings, bolted fittings, threaded ports, drains, overflows, and vents in PVC, CPVC, polypropylene, and PVDF, with gaskets specified to the service in EPDM, Viton (FKM), PTFE, Buna-N, Neoprene, silicone, or specialty synthetics if the work requires.

Beyond connections, tanks can carry internal components for liquid control such as baffles, weirs, skimmers, and dip tubes. For vapor control: vented and hinged lids in clear or opaque and material matched, hoods, and scrubber connections. For process control: mounts for mixers and heaters, full pump manifolds, and accessories for flow and level monitoring. For handling and access: features such as forklift pockets, ladders, tie-down points, fill lines, and sight or level indicators. Secondary containment is available as spill basins, containment bases, and double wall construction. Heat tracing and insulation can be added where the process requires temperature holding and resistance to ambient conditions.

For large capacity, tall, or heavy load builds, external structural reinforcement using plastic ribbing, steel box sections, girth bands, or plastic encased I-beams can be added to your specification requirements.
