Built for Your Specific Chemicals and Process

For operations requiring tanks fabricated to exact dimensions and configurations, Protank builds from professional grade polypropylene sheet stock to your specifications. For operations that need stock poly tanks fully outfitted for a specific process application, Protank configures and installs the fittings, valves, piping, instrumentation, and accessories your system requires. When applications need large capacity or specific chemical compatibility, Protank offers fiberglass and bolted steel tanks in sizes from several thousand to hundreds of thousands of gallons.

Before any tank is built or outfitted, Protank reviews your specific chemicals, concentrations, and process temperatures to confirm compatibility across the complete system, including fittings, gaskets, valves, piping, and accessories, not just the tank body.

Chemical Manufacturing & Formulation

Manufacturing of adhesives, cleaning solutions, coatings, and other specialty chemical products requires tanks that can handle the specific chemicals and workflow of each formulation. Protank's tank material and fitting selection and pre-build compatibility review ensure the right tank for your company’s process line.

Water Treatment

EPA · Municipal

Chemical dosing and day tanks for water and wastewater treatment plants are used to store and meter sodium hypochlorite, aluminum sulfate, ferric sulfate, polymer, caustic, and pH adjustment chemicals. Tanks can be set up with secondary containment, level sensors, and metering pump connections for direct integration into treatment plant chemical feed systems.

Chemical Distribution & Bulk Storage

Chemical distributors, wholesalers, and industrial suppliers hold and move a range of acids, alkalis, oxidizers, and specialty chemicals that arrive in bulk and leave in smaller quantities. This often requires compatible tanks for multiple chemicals in different sizes and functional designs. Protank supplies custom fabricated PP tanks for processing and transfer, IBC totes for shipping regulated liquids, and fully outfitted HDPE/XLPE stock tanks for bulk storage. Tanks can be installed with fittings, valves, level sensors, and pump equipment.

Agriculture

Liquid fertilizer storage and blending, handling herbicide and pesticide concentrates, and mixing crop protection chemicals are among the highest volume applications in the US for plastic tanks. Protank builds tanks for agricultural chemical dealers, on-farm blending, and the applicators who load these liquids into sprayers. Our tanks are compatible with the ammonia-based, potassium-based, and acidic solutions common in agriculture. Tanks are available in stationary and transport ready mobile designs.

Petrochemicals

Refining and petrochemical operations generate corrosive process streams such as spent acids, caustic wash solutions, and chemical treatment intermediates. These require compatible storage and containment at multiple points throughout the facility. Protank builds tanks for acid wash systems, scrubber make-up and recirculation, and chemical injection applications where the chemical resistance of polypropylene and polyethylene to sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hydroxide makes them reliable product solutions.

Oil and Gas

Chemical injection, wastewater treatment, and process storage in upstream and downstream oil and gas operations require tanks compatible with corrosive treatment chemicals, scale inhibitors, biocides, and acidizing fluids across various concentrations and field conditions. Protank supplies custom PP fabricated tanks, outfitted HDPE/XLPE tanks, and bolted steel tanks for high volume containment where capacity requirements exceed poly tanks’ size range.

Power Generation

Power plants use chemical treatment tanks for cooling tower systems, boiler feed water treatment, and flue gas desulfurization tasks to store and dose sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid, caustic soda, and scale and corrosion inhibitors on a continual basis. These are high uptime jobs where interruption has direct, potentially widespread consequences. Protank can configure dosing and day tanks with level sensors, metering pump hookups, pipeline fittings, secondary containment, and overflow protection to keep chemical feed systems running reliably.

Mining & Mineral Processing

Acid leaching, solvent extraction, reagent preparation, and wastewater treatment in mining operations require chemical tanks that are compatible with sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and oxidizing reagents at industrial concentrations and volumes. Polypropylene and HDPE handle the majority of these applications and concentrations. FRP tanks are available for jobs needing higher capacity or compatibility with more aggressive chemicals.

Food Processing

NSF/ANSI 61 · FDA · USDA

Food and beverage production companies use alkaline cleaners, sanitizers, and clean-in-place (CIP) chemicals. These must be safely contained and precisely handled to prevent contamination of contact surfaces or introducing extractables into the workstream. Protank offers tanks to NSF/ANSI 61 standards for food contact and water systems where material certification is a procurement requirement. Tanks can be matched to CIP needs with smooth interior surfaces and full drain connections.

Pharmaceuticals

21 CFR Parts 210/211

Four Material Categories. One Source.

The right construction material for a chemical manufacturing tank depends on the liquids being handled, the application demands, work environment, storage capacity requirements, and the company budget. Protank supplies and builds tanks in four material categories:

Polypropylene (PP), Custom Fabricated

Our primary fabrication material for fully custom made tanks, precision welded from professional grade sheet stock in thicknesses from 3/16″ to 1″, built to your dimensions and specifications. We customize wall thickness, footprint, fitting layout, and total storage capacity. Polypropylene is available in both homopolymer (PP-H) and copolymer (PP-C) grades to match service conditions. Polypropylene has an operating range from 30°F to 210°F, 180°F max continuous, and is compatible with many acids, alkalis, solvents, and oxidizers common to chemical manufacturing.

HDPE and XLPE, Fully Outfitted Tanks

Protank supplies stock polyethylene tanks from North America’s leading manufacturers in a full range of sizes and models, then configures them to your work requirements. Outfitting options include bulkhead fittings in specified locations, valves, piping, pumps, strainers, sight glasses, fill and draw tubes, flow meters, level sensors, mixer mounts, scrubber connections, OSHA rated access ladders, and custom lid configurations including fully removable half lid conversions. The result: a purpose built tank system from a proven tank platform with lead times and price points that custom fabrication can’t always match.

CPVC and PVDF, When PP is Incompatible

When chemical types or working temperatures exceed polypropylene's property capabilities, Protank can fabricate tanks from CPVC or PVDF Kynar sheet stock. CPVC is best for hot, non-oxidizing corrosives, handling continuous service up to 200°F. PVDF Kynar is best for strong oxidizers, aggressive acids, high temperatures, and purity-dependent applications outside PP, PVC, CPVC, and HDPE service.

Fiberglass (FRP) Tanks

Available in vertical flat bottom, vertical leg, horizontal, and multi-piece sectional options from 5,000 to 80,000 gallons, fiberglass tanks are ideal when capacity requirements exceed what PP or HDPE tanks provide, or when the specific chemical has better compatibility with fiberglass. Multi-piece sectional tanks are field installed by experienced crews, making them viable for sites where tank size exceeds what can be transported already assembled.
